Your resume is your tool to sell you. So don’t rush it!
In today’s society, a job application is often just a click away, so your resume is likely to be one of many landing in your potential employers or recruiter’s inbox. You will need a well written, eye catching and relevant CV to get noticed and this can be a daunting process trying to get everything onto paper that best sells you and knowing what to include and what to leave out is where it can become really confusing. Follow our top tips and increase the chance of your resume making it through to the next stage.
- Put your contact details clearly at the top of the first page, and make sure these are correct and up to date. Make it as easy as possible for the employer or recruiter to reach out to you.
- List your work experience in chronological date order, and include your employment dates against each role.
- Ensure the ‘bulk’ of your resume is clear and concise; 5 - 10 bullet points under each role, outlining your key responsibilities and achievements is a great way to do this.
- Your recruiter or interviewer will do their research, so don't leave jobs off, include any false information or over fluff your job titles and responsibilities.
- Ensure the final document is well formatted – try not to go over 3 pages, relevant content which you can expand on in interview is key.
- And last but not least - check, double check and triple check the spelling, punctuation and grammar, we would also suggest having a friend or family member read over your application before you hit send as a second set of eyes may pick up something you missed.
However remember your resume is just one of many factors considered throughout the hiring process and in the end nobody ever lands a job on their resume alone.
