It’s Time to Consider Entry Level Candidates

Candidates

The Real Estate industry in particular is currently suffering with a lack of good quality and career focused Candidates, and all clients in the market-place are looking for exactly the same experience and willing to pay top dollar for it. However, in such a competitive and candidate-short market, it really is time to start building your talent pool and looking for people outside of the industry with a brilliant transferrable skillset.

Some of the following are great industries to look at:

Hospitality – in particular these Candidates are used to working in busy bars or hotels; they work quickly, can cope under pressure and are many a time used to dealing with irate and irrational clientele. If you are looking for someone for your Property Management team these are all great qualities to possess – you just need to teach the laws and checklists of Property Management.

Travel – again these Candidates are used to working quickly, having to type lots of notes accurately and often need great negotiation skills to get Clients to commit and to pay – wouldn’t someone like this be great on your sales or property management team?

School leavers – I know that there is a lot of talk about school leavers these days and a perceived lack of work ethic that is needed to succeed in today’s world. One of our favourites is to look at a leaver that has had experience working somewhere like McDonalds; they are expected to turn up for every shift, be polite and offer good customer service; uniforms for work need to be clean and tidy to as well as being very process driven.

We know it takes time to train entry level Candidates, especially when you are busy, but look at some of these industries as well as others to try and find talent you can work with and nurture through your business. These newcomers could be seniors in your business in years to come!
